PHOTOCAL
PHOTOCATALYTIC COATINGS
Use the Power of Light !
TECHNOLOGY

The PHOTOCAL range of photocatalytic surface treatment products are  intelligent, active and ready to use

The PHOTOCAL products are especially formulated to treat all external and internal surfaces (all materials) of commercial, residential and industrial buildings. They can also be applied to the transport industry (Cars, buses, trucks, trains, boats, etc…) and many other industries (solar panels, windmills, tranformation goods, medical, etc..)

PHOTOCAL products, once dry, form a permanent, robust, hydrophilic, transparent and invisible protective surface on the following materials:

Stone
Plexy
Wall paper
Brick
Polycarbonates
Wood
Concrete
Plastics/PVC
Textiles
Plasterboard
Painted surfaces
Metals
Glass
Tiles (roof/floor/wall)

What's Photocatalyst PHOTOCAL ?

First reaction, when a photocatalyst titanium dioxide (TiO2) captures ultraviolet light (UV), it forms activated oxygen from water or oxygen in the air. This process is similar to photosynthesis, in which chlorophyll captures sunlight to turn water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose.
The formed activated oxygen is strongenough to oxidize and decompose organic materials or smelling gas, and kill bacteria. Recently, photocatalyst coating technology has made it possible for building materials to have advanced functions, that is, sterilizing, deodorizing, and anti-fouling properties.
Second reaction, when the surface of photocatalytic film is exposed to light, the contact angle of the photocatalyst surface with water is reduced gradually. After enough exposure to light, the surface reaches super-hydrophilicity. In other words, it does not repel water at all, so the water cannot exist in the shape of a drop, but spreads flatly on the surface of photocatalyst.

The photo-catalytic super-hydrophilicity is important technology, because it has wider applications, including anti-fogging and self-cleaning properties.

Our PHOTOCAL thin film has interesting property of super- hydrophilicity. At first, the contact angle of water with the TiO2 thin film is several tens degrees. Then, by the irradiation of UV light, the contact angle decreases gradually, and at last, it reaches 0 degree. After that, the contact angle remains only several degrees for scores of hours without the irradiation of UV light. Besides, even if the contact angle increases, it easily decreases again only by the irradiation of UV light.

In urban area, almost dirty marks on the exterior wall are mainly caused by the exhaust of automobiles and factories, which are hydrophobic and oily. Utilizing the super- hydrophilic coating, these hydrophobic dirty marks can be self-cleaned with a rainfall, and you can keep the wall clean semipermanently.

In addition to the above-mentioned applications, the super- hydrophilicity can be applied for many other products utilizing secondary properties. For example, the super- hydrophilic surface dries quickly utilizing the property of that the water cannot flatly spreads on it. This effect can be applied to preventing dewdrops forming inside a windowpane and a greenhouse, for the purpose of protecting flowers, fruits and vegetables from rotting by dewdrops.
